Christina talks to Zhu Hai Bo
During school recess I approached a group of students who had just completed their morning exercises in the area in front of the school building at Shuanglong. Zhu Hai Bo wanted to practise her English.

Zhu Hai Bo and Lo Hun ZingShe said she was 15 years old and her parents are farmers, like most people in this area. They grow rice and vegetables and, although Zhu Hai Bo boards at the school, she sees her parents every weekend. Her 17-year-old brother is studying physics in Simao, 100 kilometres away.

Zhu Hai Bo introduced me to her friend, Lo Hun Zing. Both would like to be English teachers.

At the time we visited, students were in the middle of an examination period, so they were busy studying. But Zhu Hai Bo told me that she enjoyed all her subjects, especially physics and English, and she showed me the text her class had been working with in English. It dealt with the theme of New Year and had lots of language exercises to accompany passages set for reading.

In her spare time, Zhu Hai Bo likes to read and play basketball. It seems that basketball is particularly popular in Shuanglong!
