Languages Education
The AEF supports the teaching and learning of languages as a key component of the curriculum. The AEF is of the view that the experience of learning a language provides students with valuable intercultural understandings and competencies. Learning a language plays an important role in supporting students to meet the challenges of life in an increasingly globalised and competitive world.
To support Languages teaching and learning, the AEF:
- Works in partnership with a number of key education stakeholders to promote Languages teaching and learning, including the Australian Federation of Modern Languages Teacher Associations (AFMLTA), peak principal and parent groups, teacher professional associations, tertiary institutions, State and Territory education systems and the Australian Government.
- Develops and delivers teacher professional learning to support enhanced program delivery.
- Develops curriculum resources that support implementation of Languages programs.
- On behalf of the Australian Government, develops and delivers National Seminars on Languages education.
- Develops Languages promotional and advocacy materials and resources.
- National Coordinated Promotion of the Benefits of Languages Learning in Schools (content to be added in 2008)
