Introduction
In 1996 Thai people celebrated the 50th anniversary of the coronation of the current king of Thailand, King Rama IX, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The purpose of this activity is to find out more about the king, the loyalty of his subjects and events held to celebrate the jubilee.
Tasks
- Visit the Golden Jubilee Network website and a selection of other websites.
- Your task is to write a feature article about the Thai Royal Golden Jubilee for an Australian newspaper. Describe the various celebratory activities held in 1996, and explain the importance of the Thai monarchy to Thai people. Remember that people reading your article may have no prior knowledge about the Thai monarchy.
