Introduction

The purpose of this activity is to use the Internet to search for information about Sukhothai. You will be asked to assess the accuracy of the information found.

Tasks

  1. Listed below are a number of websites that contain information and images on Sukhothai. Discuss with your teacher which website you should visit. Use the following questions as a guide in your research. You may have additional questions to answer.

    • Describe one of the carvings at the Royal Palace
    • How many gates are there in the city walls?
    • Where would you find an image of Buddha?
    • Where would you find Lord Buddha's footprint?
    • What are the wats made out of?
    • What is a stupa?
    • Where would you find demons?

  2. Sketch a typical wat and list how many there are in the Sukhothai region. Describe two wats in detail.

  3. Find out more information about the website you have visited. Use the following questions to guide you:

    • Who owns the website? Does it belong to a government agency, a commercial company or another organisation or individual?
    • Who is the author of the information on Sukhothai? Do you think the author has authority? Why do you think so?
    • What is the purpose of the website? Does it exist to advertise services, for providing information on a country or for research?
    • Do you think the information presented is accurate and reliable?
