A 3-month professional development programme in languages methodology for 300 teachers of Asian languages was offered in each State /Territory in the first part of 2004.
The programme consisted of:
| • | an initial 2-day professional learning programme, focussing on intercultural language learning. |
| • | the opportunity to trial new approaches in the classroom. Participants were supported in implementing change by language education leaders and through face-to-face and /or electronic discussion groups. |
| • | a further 1-day professional learning programme in which the outcomes of school-based trials were presented to enable teachers to share strategies. |
