School teams will be selected to participate in Phase 2: Supporting Languages within Schools, from those who participated in Phase 1.
Each school team included:
| • | the language teacher who participated in Phase 1 |
| • | a member of the school leadership |
| • | 2 other teaching staff |
Phase 2 focused on whole school support for Asian Languages and on strengthening connections between languages and other areas of the curriculum. It was offered in the second half of 2004.
The programme consisted of:
| • | a 2-day professional development programme, focussing on intercultural learning and curriculum change, links to other aspects of the curriculum including literacy, ICT and vocational education, and whole school appraches to language programmes. |
| • | the opportunity to plan and implement a school-based project linking languages and other areas of the curriculum. Schools were supported in implementing change by language education leaders and through the establishment of networks and/or electronic discussion groups |
| • | a further 1-day professional learning programme in which the outcomes of school-based projects were presented to enable teams to share strategies. |
