India

India is a country located in South-East Asia that borders Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, China, Nepal and Pakistan. It has three major river systems: the Indus, the Ganges and the Brahmaputra. As a result, the Indian landscape is very prone to natural disasters such as flash flooding, landslides and cyclones.

India is considered one of the world's most significant countries due to its growing economy and large population. It has a history that dates back as far as 2600 BCE and involves the great rise to power of the Mauryan Empire under the reign of the emperor, Ashoka. Most Indian produce comes from small, rural villages.

However, since opening its doors to international trade and commerce, India has become a hive for the services sector, with many foreign companies based in the area. Mumbai is the most populous city in India. The Indus Valley is believed to be the first urban culture in South-East Asia.

Prior to India's independence from the British Empire, both Australia and India were members of the Commonwealth, and from this historical bond the two countries have very close relations, including a strong cricket culture. Trade relations began between Australia and India in the late 18th century. India's largest export materials are textiles, semi-precious stones, clothing and computer software. Australia mainly exports coal to India, along with non-monetary gold and copper ore.
