Investigations and activities (SOSE/Geography/Economics Focus)

1. Do an internet search to view pictures of different aspects of the Hangang River and try a Google Earth search to see satellite images of it. How do these views increase your understanding of the importance of this river to the city of Seoul? Look at the image ‘The Hangang River: the heart of Korea’ and read the six pieces of rollover information.
2. Do an internet search to help you investigate the main types of agricultural activity along the Hangang River?
3. The seasons in Korea result in a very varied climate. In four groups, research the main features of each season in Korea. Create a poster to represent the characteristics found and how people's lives are affected by the change in seasons.
4. Korea has undergone rapid economic development since 1962.

a) Investigate why this achievement has become known as the ‘economic miracle on the Hangang River’.

b) Research, identify and list Korean products and brands that have been developed as part of this remarkable growth. Place an asterisk beside items that you did not previously associate with Korea.

c) In a class discussion, talk about what you have learned about Korea from this task.
