2012 National History Challenge: Asia and Australia prize

NHC_student2011Andre Wang, a Year 9 student from Kelmscott Senior High School WA, won the Asia and Australia category sponsored by the AEF in 2011. He celebrated his win with teacher, Cathy Baron, and Don Randall, Member for Canning in WA. Andre received $300 cash, a Medallion and a 2-day excursion in Canberra with other national winners.

The theme for 2012 is People and Consequences. Read the guidelines for the Asia and Australia category. Go to the National History Challenge website for information about the 2012 challenge. Closing date for entries is 31 August 2012.

SA student inspired to save orangutans

shanice orangutanVictor Harbour High School’s development of an Asia literate curriculum has inspired students to reach out and become proactive in the Asian region. The adoption of a Borneo orangutan named Carlos is an example of students’ concern for global issues such as the environment and conservation.

One Year 12 student at the school used the plight of Carlos and his fellow primates as the subject of her crucial final year New South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) research project. Read more about her fundraising efforts.
