Unit 1: Connecting with Timor-Leste
This upper primary unit explores the geography, history, the way of life of its people, the language and history of the country, celebrations, food and traditional art forms. It aims to have students connect with, appreciate, make comparisons with the educational experiences in schools in Timor-Leste and in their own school.
Unit 2: Timor-Leste: friends and close neighbours
This upper primary unit provides students with activities related to the similarities and differences in lifestyles in Timor-Leste and Australia. Students will also understand how the history and diverse physical environment of Timor-Leste affects the way people live.
Unit 3: Timor Leste: an integrated approach
This lower secondary unit explores the ways in which the history, geography and economy of Timor-Leste have contributed to the country’s specific development as a nation. The unit includes an overview of Timor-Leste’s history and a study of contemporary events. They will explore the economic challenges facing this nation and also examine aspects of Australia’s role in relation to Timor-Leste.
Unit 4: Timor Leste: future scenarios
This lower secondary unit utilises Timor-Leste as a case study for exploring the idea of ‘designing the future’. The unit will include an overview of Timor-Leste’s history and an exploration of current living conditions. The role of natural resources and geography is explored and the ways in which Timor-Leste is building its future as a new nation are examined.
