Regional Communities: Building a Sustainable Future
The people and economies of the Asia-Pacific region are growing more connected and cooperating with each other more than ever, thanks to globalisation. This unit explores these connections, and Australia's role in an emerging regional community. It looks at the importance of students becoming active, responsible and informed citizens of a rapidly changing world.

Elaborations
Students explore the ways in which international events and developments can affect Australia's relationships with countries in Asia (e.g. terrorism, changed status of Timor-Leste, responsibilities associated with international relations and agreements).
Students investigate the nature and purpose of regional trade and other international agreements with countries in Asia and how Australia's relations with countries in the region may have changed over time (e.g. APEC and ASEAN).
Students evaluate the significance of mutually beneficial economic, cultural, political and strategic relations between countries in Asia, and the ways in which they can be sustained by governments and businesses in the region.

Overview
Globalisation is facilitating an ever-increasing interconnectedness and level of co-operation between peoples, economies and systems in the Asia-Pacific region. This unit explores these connections, the role of Australia as part of an emerging regional community, and the importance of students becoming active, responsible and informed citizens in a rapidly changing world.
Duration
This unit should be completed over five weeks with two one-hour blocks per week.
