Materials required

- Travel brochures
Procedure
- Introduction
Read out the list of country facts from Handout 7. Students suggest what they think might be the answers. - Finding answers
Students use The Really Big Food Project to locate the answers. The class could be divided into nine country groups, with each group reading the relevant pages of the book to locate the fact that relates to their country. Each group could then report back. - Handout 7
Students complete Handout 7, matching countries and facts. These could be glued onto a map of Asia, with arrows pointing to the countries. - Travel brochures
Provide a collection of travel brochures featuring the nine countries. Give students time to browse through the travel brochures. Ask the students:- What type of information is included in these brochures?
- Why is this information included?
- How is the information presented?
- Making a travel brochure
Each student selects one of the nine countries. Explain to the students that they will be making their own travel brochure about this country.
Their travel brochure is to include:- A map
- Description of natural features
- Main tourist attractions with pictures
- Weather chart showing monthly temperatures and rainfall
- Display of travel brochures
Display completed travel brochures around the classroom.
Extension Activity
Students make a poster about the country of their choice. Include information about food, arts, crafts and games from this country.
Suggested follow-up activities
Plan a special day of activities which focuses on food, dances, games and arts from the nine countries.
