cover image: The Asia Scope and Sequence for English: Professional Learning Workshop

This professional learning program introduces teachers to the Asia Scope and Sequence for English, the accompanying units of work developed for English classrooms and the National Statement. It explores the rationale for a focus on Asia as well as providing time for discussion about useful resources and pedagogies. Alignment to the Australian Curriculum is provided for resource activities.

Activity 1: The Rationale - Introduction and aims

  1. Welcome participants and discuss overall aims of the professional learning programme and an outline of each activity (Slides 1.1 and 1.2).
  2. Begin by asking participants to identify the best book or film they have experienced that has come from Asia. Offer your own favourite as a stimuli.
  3. Ask participants to share with each other any personal or professional experiences of Asia (eg travel or teaching and learning activities), as well as their anticipated outcomes from the program. These should be shared among the group, recorded and returned to at the end of the activity/program.
Suggested time allocation: 5 minutes
