Michael first travelled to Japan on a gap year after studying Japanese and Asian Studies at secondary school. He ended up studying and working in Japan for 4 years and became a fluent speaker of Japanese. After further study and travel, Michael then returned to Japan for a few more years during which time he bought and operated a motel business. Michael has also worked as a cultural translator, accompanying Japanese businessmen and also Australian biotechnology teams who visited Japan to exhibit at industry expos. He has built a wide network of contacts across Asia, particularly Japan, and has enjoyed all the opportunities that it has afforded him.
