Introduction
This professional learning workshop is intended to:
- raise awareness about, and support implementation of, the Asia Scope and Sequence for The Arts (ASSfA) resource and the National Statement for Engaging Young Australians with Asia in Australian Schools (the National Statement)
- provide stimulus for educators to consider the implications of including a focus on arts works, practitioners, forms and traditions from Asia and Australia in their curriculum.
Workshop rationale
The workshop functions in three ways:
- As a ‘bigger picture’ opportunity for reflecting on the implications and opportunities provided by the development of these curriculum documents
- As a practical workshop for educators
- As a discussion forum about ways units/activities can be extended or adapted to focus on different Arts disciplines.
Workshop aims
The professional learning workshop has several aims:
- To introduce educators to the National Statement and the ASSfA resource including the units of work
- To provide opportunities for educators, whether in policy development, school leadership, or classroom teaching, to reflect on current practice in relation to engaging young Australians with Asia through the Arts learning area
- To assist educators in planning their future practice to introduce or strengthen engagement with Asia using the new resources
