- Bob Carr joins BRIDGE Skype session
Foreign Minister Carr visits BRIDGE school
Foreign Minister Bob Carr visited SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Denpasar and participated in a Skype session linking students with their Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE partner school Southern Christian College in Tasmania. Students from both schools presented and shared experiences of their online collaborative activities including language, dance and cooking.
Carr noted that "contact between a school in Australia and a school somewhere in Asia … is a way of getting motivation. The stimulus of students in Tasmania being able to exchange with a school here [Indonesia] not only helps schools with language facility but a knowledge of the culture as well … a huge investment in Australia's future."
A national objective of the Australia in the Asian Century White Paper states that 'All schools will engage with at least one school in Asia to support the teaching of a priority Asian language, including through increased use of the National Broadband Network.'
The Australia in the Asian Century White Paper references BRIDGE as a model of Australia-Asia school partnerships.
