Students will have the opportunity to identify, analyse and compare how and why East Asian art forms influenced 20th century and 21st century Western (including Australian) artists, and what dominant concepts of Western art are prevalent in East Asian contemporary art.
Students could research, analyse and evaluate the impact of Paul Gauguin’s art works and ideas had to challenge Western concepts of symbolic colour and composition, and compare how Hartini uses the ideology of Surrealism as social commentary about her cultural identity.
