Global Youth Advocacy Forums (GYAFs) consists of four one-day online youth leadership forums for Year 9 students and have been developed in response to the cancelation of the Victorian Young Leaders Program in 2020. GYAFs have been designed and will be delivered by Asia Education Foundation (AEF), in partnership with High Resolves and under guidance by Emeritus Professor Fazal Rizvi (The University of Melbourne: Melbourne Graduate School of Education) in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training.

FAQ

How will students and supervising teachers participate?

Each student will participate in the forum via Zoom using their own device. At least one supervising teacher is required to remain connected to the students (e.g., via Google Hangouts or school’s own LMS) or stay in the same room to provide guidance and assistance to students with both online and offline tasks.

What is the time commitment of participating students and supervising teachers?

As part of their participation students and teachers will receive a pre-forum and post-forum task pack.

Supervising teachers are asked to ensure that every student:

  1. Completes the pre-forum self-evaluation at least a day before the forum
  2. Attains electronic consent from their parents/guardians to participate and have their image captured. It is required that this is done prior to the event. Students who do not have consent will not be allowed to participate.
  3. Receives adequate assistance and guidance to complete the pre-forum tasks outlined in the information pack.
  4. Completes the post-forum self-evaluation within a week after their participation in the forum.

The forum information pack, pre-and post-forum self-evaluation and electronic consent will be emailed to the supervising teachers within a few days of registration.

It is anticipated that the pre and post-forum tasks require approximately 5 hours of engagement in total.

What are the requirements and restrictions associated with registration?

Each school is invited to register one team (up to six students) for a total of two forums. Teams can be the same or different groups of students. If you would like to register for more than two forums, please email Satoshi Sanada to discuss the option.

Registration opens at 09:00 on 1 September 2020 and closes at 17:00 AEST on 25 September 2020.

What is the cost associated with registration?

Participation in the Global Youth Advocacy Forums are fully funded by the Victorian Department of Education and Training for all Year 9 Victorian students.
