World Class Education: Shanghai and Singapore Study Program 2017

Introduction

School leaders are increasingly looking beyond their own borders for evidence of the most successful education policies and practices. Indeed, in a global economy, success is no longer measured against national standards alone, but against the best-performing and most rapidly improving education systems.

Shanghai (China) and Singapore are investing heavily in education reform and renewal. World Class Education – Shanghai and Singapore offers school leaders the opportunity to connect with and learn from leading education institutions and high performing schools. These opportunities will enable participants to engage in dialogue with leading thinkers, policy planners and educators. Connecting with high performing school systems will allow school leaders to identify effective policies that they can adapt to their local contexts in advancing education for global schools.

The Asia Education Foundation (AEF) and the Queensland Department of Education and Training (DET) International have partnered to deliver this exciting professional development study program.  The program will commence on 12 September and conclude on the 22 September 2017. The group will be led by Dr Jim Watterston, Director-General of the Department, and include high-level educational leaders in state schools, as well as key decision-makers in central and regional offices.

Program Objectives

The objectives of the program are to provide participants with the opportunity to:

  • Gain a better understanding of school leadership trends in Asia;
  • Identify effective policies that they can potentially adapt to local settings;
  • Strengthen the international engagement capability of participants;
  • Develop greater cultural knowledge and understanding, to foster the drive to implement international perspectives across the entire curriculum.
