NALSSP Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools

Becoming Asia Literate: Grants to Schools (BALGS) have provided $7.24 million to Australian primary and secondary schools through three annual competitive funding rounds between 2009 and 2012.

These grants assist schools to promote the teaching and learning of Asian languages and/or the studies of Asia related to one or more of the four NALSSP target countries – China, Indonesia, Japan and Korea.

The AEF, working in collaboration with DEEWR and state and territory education authorities, is responsible for assessing and administering the grants, as well as supporting successful schools to manage their projects.
