North Sydney Demonstration School NSW

North Sydney Demonstration School's (NSDS') China BRIDGE school partnership has led to an increase in Asia capability in the school and greater collaboration within the district, among states and with China.

The NSW school has undertaken a number of activities with its Chinese partner school. For example, in December 2013, students shared songs and stories from their respective countries via video conference, while in May 2014, NSDS was involved in a Combined Chinese Cultural Day involving four schools. Asia Literacy Ambassador Jason Boonham spoke about the importance of learning about Chinese language and culture, and students joined classes on calligraphy, Chinese brush painting and music.

China content has been integrated into other areas of NSDS' curriculum. Year 5 students are studying natural disaster, using the case study of bushfires to look at haze issues in both Australia and China.
