Why Indonesia Matters in Our Schools
Cambodia is a South-East Asian country bordered by Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. Its biggest industries include garment making, construction, tourism and agriculture.
Cambodia is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and has a free trade agreement in place with Australia. The two countries have enjoyed diplomatic relations for more than 60 years.
Australia has a significant presence in Cambodia. It supported the Cambodia Peace Process and has a defence cooperation programme in place. Australia provided Official Development Assistance (ODP) totalling $84 million in 2012/2013.
Under the ODP, 50 long-term scholarships are offered to Cambodians to study in Australia.
