What is Asia capability?
The idea of Asia capability is that by the time they leave school, a strong cohort of young Australians will speak an Asian language and all students will have foundational and deep knowledge, skills and understanding of the histories, geographies, arts and literature of the diverse countries of Asia.
Why is Asia capability important?
An understanding of Asia equips young Australians to be active and informed citizens working together to build harmonious local, regional and global communities.

Asia capability contributes to Australia’s social, intellectual and creative capital. It builds understanding of the diversity of cultures and peoples living in Australia, fosters social inclusion and is vital to the prosperity of Australia.
Leading Asia capability in your school
The Australian Professional Standard for Principals acknowledges the crucial role of the principal in leading 21st century schools and recognises that the interplay between the local, national and international environments is the context in which the principal works.

As a leader of an Australian school, this means ensuring that all students have the opportunity to become active and informed global citizens.
