STEMing From Asia Youth Forum

What do e-Sports, ear-prints and electric cars have in common? They are all innovative STEM products being developed by countries in Asia.

STEMing from Asia is the Asia Education Foundation’s first STEM based youth program designed for secondary school students, which enables school leaders, teachers and students to deepen their STEM understanding in an intercultural context.

Youth-led, this engaging learning experience brings students together to explore examples of technological and infrastructural advances from across countries like China, Korea, Japan and Australia. This forum provides students with the opportunity to connect their existing learnings with new STEM knowledge in order to propose innovative STEM-based solutions to pressing contemporary challenges.

Students will have the opportunity to hear from and interact with specialists, who share their insights about STEM and innovation in these countries, and how their work contributes towards scientific and technological developments and Australia’s engagement with Asia in these fields.

Working collaboratively, throughout the forum students will use design thinking methodology to conceptualise a product or service that addresses emerging societal needs. Inspired by the work of nations in Asia, areas of focus will include green technology, medical technology, gaming, engineering and social media platforms.

Prior to the forum, teachers are provided with a comprehensive information pack, including pre-forum student learning activities as well as suggestions of post-forum activities.
